"Fall Out Boy (http://www.punknews.org/bands/falloutboy) and Panic! At the Disco (http://www.punknews.org/bands/panicatthedisco) are among the bands who have been enlisted to provide covers of tracks from Tim Burton's beloved gothic musical, The Nightmare Before Christmas. Originally released in 1993, the film, directed by Henry Selick, used stop-motion animation and computer effects as well as original music. This fall, the film is scheduled to hit theatres for a second run, only this time featuring 3D effects (glasses, not computer graphics).

To coincide with the re-release, a new double disc soundtrack featuring covers of Danny Elfman's classic songs will be issued. Other participants include Marilyn Manson, Fiona Apple and She Wants Revenge.

Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz had this to say to MTV (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1539534/20060828/fall_out_boy.jhtml?headlines=true): Disney approached our management about us doing a song. And we're obsessed with that film and Danny Elfman [who wrote the score]. And of course I've got my 'Nightmare' tattoos, so we were like, 'Yes!'

The songs in the film are pretty much the best things ever. They're Elfman at his prime. And our song 'Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner' [from 2005's From Under the Cork Tree] blatantly rips off a crescendo from one of them. They're absolutely amazing.
While not massively successful in its original run, the film eventually garnered a huge following through DVD, particularly popular among the goth crowd due to its macabre imagery and black humour. The recent film, Corpse Bride was creator Tim Burton's second foray into the medium."

Why, dear God, why?

Okay, look. I approve of their choice for the latter bands (the idea of Disney contacting Marilyn Manson to do a song tickles me) but I just can't understand how on earth they'd decide to approach Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco. I've honestly had enough of these cover albums (the Disney Mania albums really need to stop) to apeal to the kids today. Not to mention, emo music just does not fit with NBC at all.

If anything, they should replace Fall Out Boy with AFI (lead singer Davey Havok has his entire right arm tattooed with NBC images) and Panic! At The Disco with, ugh, I dunno! Just someone else who's more alternative! You'd think after numerous years of Bats Day at Disneyland they'd learn to know what bands to choose from.

Argh, I'm outraged!

Wow FOB? Thats crazy Goth+emoe=catostraphe. I have nothing against either of those but they just don't mix. Kinda like eating oreos then drinking lemondade.

Love Nightmare but why put bands in there. Its a classic for the music not for the whole "Dark Goth scene".I don't hate those bands but I just really don't want them in Disney. But hey Disneys reaching out to a new audience.

Ummmmm...No. Sorry. This doesn't really work out for me. Why would they be re-doing the entire soudtrack? I can see them doing one or two covers of the more popular songs from the movie, but this is just overkill. I don't mind the fact that the bands are all goth or emo or whatever, it's just not necessary to re-do what's already so good.

One also has to wonder why we've been given Disney Mania albums... this is just Disney's, er, 'alternative' for those Hot Topic kids.

Blegh.

Sorry to 'zombify' a rather dead topic but you can sample the new covers on the official NBC 3-D Myspace. Just add 'nightmare3d' after the usual link.

I am LOVING 'This Is Halloween' by Marilyn Manson. The original will always be a classic but the way he made it, I'm sure the goth kids have found their new anthem.

Fall Out Boy did a good job with 'What's This?'. Not too emo-fied. I didn't hold any real expectations for these guys so I was mildly surprised. Mildly.

Fiona Apple's version of 'Sally's Song'... I like it. Her vocals give this cover something a little special but still in tribute to what we're all familiar with.

She Wants Revenge... rather interesting take on 'Kidnap The Sandy Claws'. I can't even hear the original tune in there. I guess this one's for the ravers.

Panic! At The Disco is nowhere to be found at the moment. Hmm.

Oh, and it seems the NBC Myspace will hold a contest soon enough. Stay tuned for that. I think I might participate.

She Wants Revenge is not the greatest version of Kidnap the Sandy Claws. I personally hate it. I love all the other songs though!!! But Kidnap The Sandy Claws could have been done better without that annoying "thud thud thud thud thud thud thud etc." And they could have done some different notes singing wise instead of the same note over again. I don't like Kidnap The Sandy Claws but the other songs rock!!!!!
