I went in 2003. Was second best on my list. First was Epcot, Second was MGM third Animal kingdom. And im not putting MK on there bc its too weird. lol no bash itended. But i like it, tower is better then ours, has indy show that rox! and has great movie ride.

went last summer. i enjoyed the trip very much. the great movie ride was awesome and i especially liked the aerosmith rockin rollercoaster. the extreme stunt show was good as well.

This is my second fav park there under EPCOT. The Great Movie Ride was the highlight for me, and the ability to see the original TOT. They also have Rock N Roller Coaster, Studio Backlot Tour, Star Tours, and lots and lots of shows, and the dining experiences at that drive-in restaurant and The Brown Derby are some of my favorites. If you haven't gone there, you should see it, but it is only a day park as it has only like fifteen attractions in all.

I went in March. I thought the back-lot tour was really poor. It talked about shooting Pearl Harbor still. I mean, come on, that movie came out what 5-6 years ago. They need to update that or something. It was totally without the Disney magic.
The rest of the park was cool though. I liked the Star Tours area and the Muppet area the most. Aerosmith was the best roller coaster I have been on.

I went this year in April, and that park is great!
My favorite areas are the Streets of America, the new San Fransco area is awesome, the area around Echo Lake, and well... the entire park!!
The park has a nice location because it's so close to Disney's Boardwalk and Epcot. So if you want to leave during the day or go to Disney-MGM Studios, you can either walk or jump on a Friendship boat :)

My only thing is that I wish, like so many that they would update Star Tours and maybe change out some of the AA in the Great Movie Ride. I realize that those are all classic movies, but there have been so many movies out since that ride was created it would be kewl to see a refreshing of the attraction. I love the Casablanca and Wizard of Oz AA though so those would HAVE to stay.

Well the problam with changing the Star Tours ride is there they would have to have the approval of George Lucus and a completely new theme would have to be designed... we're talking years there

For the Great Movie Ride: what movies are you talking about adding in. And with the addition, some will have to come out. I agree with keeping the Casablanca and Wizard of Oz scenes but, maybe others would say that they such go. It's all based on opinoin. I hear they have some video at the end of the ride that they update every now and then with "current" movies.
Maybe changing the script... the same thing gets so boring after a few rides. This would be a perfect attraction to pull a Jungle Cruise on... let the drivers tell jokes :)

Dunno which specific movies to add but I think the Indiana Jones movies are the most recent scene in the attraction. Maybe the interactive scenes the bank robbery and the gangsters could be swapped out for something new? I am not saying it HAS to be done, I personally love the attraction, and I always look forward to which scene the driver will swap out on. As for the Star Tours update, didn't I read here somewhere that George has agreed or even suggested changes to the attraction?

I remember a few years ago, there was something about a new concept for the ride being based on the Episode I movie... but I dont really know too much about it and exactly what happened with the new ride design.

MGM is a really cool park. I must agree about the sorcerer's hat...it needs to go. It is a neat icon for the park and it looks great - just not where it is. Used to be, you walked into MGM and you were looking down a street of Hollywood that never was...and at the end was the Chinese Theater. Really cool. The hat needs to go....especially since it sits directly on Mickey's face. When the park opened, the planters and paving used in the plaza in front of the Great Movie Ride was in the shape of features on Mickey's face. Echo Lake was Mickey's right ear (although the Brown Derby sat squarely on his left ear). As for attractions, this has some of the best...Obviously ToT and Rock and Roller Coaster. It also has Muppets (same as in DCA). If you like the Indiana Jones Stunt Show, it pales in comparison to Lights, Motors, Action.

The MGM of yesterday, alas, was better in some areas. I remember back in the 90's the backlot tour was actually good. It probably took too long, but it was engaging. You got to see (and participate) in the "special effects tank" - basically the same before they Pearl Harbored it - and do some green screen filming as a few guests were shot into a scene of Honey I Shrunk the Kids. You got to see the sets for the Bette Midler short that was filmed on New York Street and got the see the film itself. You also got a tour of all the soundstages where actual production was taking place (Mickey Mouse Club, gameshows, etc.). The tram tour was better then too as you got to go through the backlot (before it was torn up for Lights Motors Action). The animation tour was AWESOME. Of course, with no animation now, it is a pretty poor attraction now. I remember seeing animators working on Mulan and Emperor's New Groove on a couple of visits. Monster Sound Show was much better than Sounds Dangerous......

The restaurants there are amazing. 50's Prime Time Cafe is one of the best dining experiences I have had at WDW. Sci-Fi Drive in Theater is REALLY cool. Shoot, even being able to say you ate in Pizza Planet is kinda wild.

Overall, MGM is still a pretty great park.

Monorail I gotta agree the backlot tour was so much more in depth and gave you a better picture of what it takes to make movies. With the props and things like the giant bee from "Honey I shrunk the Kids" and the setup to "The Lottery" it kinda put you in the movies more. And it helped give more definition to New York Street which now is just a set to walk thru.

am I reading correctly that they don't do the special effects 'behind the scenes' tour anymore? I did the backlot tour (Pearl Harbor and then driving around seeing old set pieces, etc) but I don't remember the other stuff... my aunt has a video of it all though so I was wondering if the bee and the like were still there somewhere?

Nope - what you saw is what you get now. The tour is a shell of its former self. The original tour took quite some time to complete...my memory fails me but I have a vague recollection that it was well over an hour from start to finish. I may be wrong about that, but it was a darn sight longer and more interesting than it is now.....

I still enjoyed the Pearl Harbor bit... I've never been able to finish the movie (snore fest for me) but the MGM show was great... I'm so hoping we can get my brother in the water room (or whatever they called it lol) but that's the big sister coming out in me...

bummer about the rest, the video my aunt has is great!
