I love the lightning effect. The first time I visited The Haunted Mansion, which was the year after it opened, it had that lightning effect ? but it didn't work very well. When the lightning flashed you could see the paintings flash, but couldn't tell what the images were. It was a good idea, but the imagineers just couldn't get the effect to work well, so they dumped it.

But now... The paintings don't look like light boxes, they look like real old oil paintings. They have the right texture. And the flash shows the other image quite clearly. I"m glad it's finally working.

And I like the "story" of it. It's like seeing something out of the corner of your eye and wondering, Did I really see that?
