My review of it, reading it over again, was probably a bit harsh:
Disney Channel has always had a penchant for finding ways to come up with the worst storylines for their cast of young stars, which is a tradition they sadly manage to continue with High School Musical 2. The first High School Musical managed to capture youth attention through it's catchy songs and dances, though the singing was poorly developed and the dances not quite up to broadway caliber.
In this new film, the singing talents of the entire cast have improved, and the dances have definitely improved, however, the storyline has somehow managed to regress even further. High School Musical 2's vague plot only serves to lead into the next music video number. Unfortunately, the producers of this sequel found it necessary to edit the living begeesus out of all the songs, making them sound ridiculously manufactured and entirely non-Broadway. The film's execution of these songs is poor, one minute going from poorly scripted dialog into a pop song, complete with stereotypical lyrics. While this film is fun for the tween target audience, it is an insult to anything that is considered a musical, and should be renamed to avoid any confusion that might occur for someone who wrongly thinks it is one.
